For those who don’t take their foot off the gas: Lalalar is at Babylon on October 18!
Lalalar, consisting of Ali Güçlü Şimşek, Barlas Tan Özemek, and Mehmet Alican İpek, made a rapid entry into the local psychedelic music scene with their single “İsyanlar”, released in February 2019. Bringing the arabesque spirit of the 1970s into the present day with a futuristic approach, Lalalar has a sound that combines cinematic retro bass, electronic beats, original vocals, and powerful dirty guitars with nostalgic elements of Anatolian melodies. Lalalar played their first show at Babylon in January 2019 and has since evolved into one of those bands that deserves to be called a festival favorite with their live performances. They have taken the stage at Europe’s well-established music gatherings such as Roskilde, Le Guess Who?, and Trans Musicales.
The band released their debut album, Bi Cinnete Bakar, in May 2022 and their second album, En Kötü İyi Olur, in September 2023. They never take their foot off the gas in this latest album, En Kötü İyi Olur, which features songs that capture the mood of Istanbul’s streets. Their music resonates with both the energy of the streets and the vibe of glittering clubs. They are mischievous, maverick, and full of energy. And above all, they have no intention of switching off until they are sure everyone is having a great time.
