We are meeting with one of Detroit’s house and techno icons, Moodymann, on September 28! Before and after Moodymann, Garan Garan will be at the cabin with his DJ Set.
Producer and DJ Kenny Dixon Jr., aka Moodymann, is one of the most mysterious and charismatic figures in house music. He seamlessly samples blues and soul tracks, elevating them with his unique style. In the mid-90s, he began his career working in Detroit record stores and was the resident DJ at the Outcast Motorcycle Club, performing under the name “House” at that time. He released his first recordings with Planet E Records and quickly gained global recognition. Moodymann’s blend of techno and house represents an innovative style of dance music that repurposes various riffs, samples, and grooves. Known for his signature use of soul and jazz samples and his ability to program increasingly fast beats, Moodymann has earned his place among the classics with tracks like “Sunday Morning” and “Shades of Jae.” After several years of releasing 12-inch singles, he compiled his best work into the album Silentintroduction, which is celebrated as one of the best albums of the late ‘90s.
