Entry Information
Regarded as one of the most influential and visionary figures in contemporary British music, **Shabaka** will take the stage at **Blind** on **April 30** as part of the **Garanti BBVA International Jazz Day Concerts**, with his new album tour ***Of The Earth***.
Over the past decade, Shabaka has radically reshaped perceptions of British jazz and experimental music through projects such as **Sons of Kemet**, **The Comet Is Coming**, and **Shabaka and the Ancestors**. With ***Of The Earth***, he opens a bold and powerful new chapter in his career. Set to be released on **March 6, 2026**, via his own label **Shabaka Records**, the album stands out as his most personal, cohesive, and liberated work to date.
The first tracks shared from the album, **“A Future Untold”** and **“Marwa the Mountain,”** already reveal Shabaka’s new musical language built around rhythm, breath, and movement. Entirely written, performed, produced, and mixed by Shabaka himself, ***Of The Earth*** expands on the inward-looking approach of his previous solo album *Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace*, this time integrating it with the body, rhythm, and motion. The dance-driven energy of **Sons of Kemet** and **The Comet Is Coming** merges with flute-centered wind narratives and electronic textures, transforming the live show into an intensely physical and hypnotic experience.
Much of the album was created during Shabaka’s travels, using portable instruments and production equipment. Looping rhythms, electronic beats, alto flute, and saxophone melodies are shaped around themes of diasporic movement, memory, and bodily existence. Bringing his vocals to the forefront for the first time, Shabaka directly channels the influence of his childhood practice rooted in hip-hop foundations, along with the experimental boldness of **André 3000**.
After returning to the saxophone at the **Louis Moholo memorial concert in 2025**, Shabaka entered a new phase of clarity. Following years of in-depth exploration of diverse flute traditions, he now approaches his instruments from an entirely new perspective. This approach turns ***Of The Earth*** into more than just an album—it becomes a space of expression that redefines the relationship between intention, body, and sound.
Throughout his career, Shabaka has performed at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals, including **Glastonbury**, **Primavera Sound**, **Montreux Jazz Festival**, **Sónar**, **North Sea Jazz**, **Roskilde**, and **VERSA Festival**, appearing both on main stages and in specially curated performances. Collaborations with artists such as **André 3000**, **Floating Points**, **Moses Sumney**, **Esperanza Spalding**, and **Mulatu Astatke** have further solidified his position on the international music scene. Most recently, his flute contribution to **Turnstile’s “Sunshower”** has been a striking example of how naturally and effectively he moves across genres.
On **April 30 at Blind**, audiences will witness this new era of Shabaka—an uncompromising live performance where jazz, electronic, spiritual, and diasporic sounds intertwine in a truly boundary-defying experience.
