Nakamura was raised in a household that actively listened to music. In elementary school, he recorded songs from radio programs and made his own mix tapes. After becoming a middle school student, he started playing guitar, drawing inspiration from artists such as Toto and Van Halen. During his high school years, he developed an interest in jazz artists like Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, and Sadao Watanabe. In college, he formed a T-Square cover band with his friends; although he studied business and did not receive formal music education, he still wanted to pursue a career in music. He worked part-time jobs to save money for music equipment and purchased a Roland MC-300 sequencer. This led him to apply as a composer for game companies.
